The Power of Mangosteen

By David A. Morton, Ph.D

I’ve studied the mangosteen fruit for close to a decade now and I am continually intrigued by what this wonderful, little fruit can do. I think I may have read just about everything ever written about the mangosteen and collaborated with experts the world over. I have met individuals whose health and lives have changed because of mangosteen—I’ve even experienced improved health myself.

In my experience, the best source of the whole mangosteen fruit is XanGo. Researchers use either the whole fruit, the pericarp or extracted components such as xanthones in their studies. However, a recently concluded clinical study by Medicus Research used XanGo in its study.

The study included 40 obese participants that were randomly assigned into 4 groups:

* Control or placebo group
* 3 oz. of XanGo twice a day
* 6 oz. of XanGo twice a day
* 9 oz. of XanGo twice a day

Blood levels were checked at the beginning, at four weeks and eight weeks during the study.

This was a double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial. In other words, both the researchers conducting and those participating in the study are “blinded” to the intervention they are given (placebo or varying amounts of XanGo Juice). This prevents the outcomes to be influenced by placebo or participant bias.

The XanGo Juice clinical trial studied an inflammatory marker, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (HS-CRP), in the blood of obese participants. HS-CRP is an indicator of inflammation (a process that results in tissue damage) and risk of poor cardiovascular health. Therefore, HS-CRP blood levels are closely tied to cardiovascular health.

In the study, the subjects who consumed XanGo Juice had a reduction in HS-CRP levels. In addition to a reduction in HS-CRP there was also a decrease in body mass index (BMI) in the subjects who consumed XanGo Juice as compared to placebo. These results are very encouraging.

The results of this study launched further research at a public institution. The new study is being conducted on a larger scale with over a hundred subjects, and each subject participates for one year. The study is being conducted and funded by the institution, and we anticipate results in a few of years. We look forward to continued scientific discovery of our amazing superfruit mangosteen.
